Pre-signup attribution is important to identify potential new users before they sign up and on subsequent visits. The attribution strategy depends on your new user signup flow. You can review recommended approaches in this guide.
Whatever your strategy, the key aspects to attributing potential new users are:
- Capture Referral code (UCC) - It's essential to maintain the continuity of referral codes throughout the signup process and be available in the new user creation step to attribute the new user to the referrer. This is required for Post-Signup Attribution
- Include returning users - Often, potential users visit your landing page via an invite link but don't sign up immediately. There's a high likelihood they will revisit and eventually sign up. Recognizing and attributing these users is a significant aspect of the strategy.
